We’ve pulled together some of our favorite spots from our recent trip to Rome (save this for your next venture to the Eternal City).
From cultural gems to the best pasta you’ll ever have, Rome is a city of endless possibilities.

This list is part of our MESH Hotlist series, where we share the places we love most — usually within Portugal, but this time, we’re taking it overseas.

EAT

  • Maccheroni
  • Campo de Fiori Oven
  • Holy Palate
  • Old Roscioli Oven
  • Retrobottega
  • Giano
  • Drink Kong (Bar)

In Rome, eating well isn’t hard to come by, but these stops are definitely not to be missed. Start with a classic pasta at Maccheroni, then indulge in the irresistible aromas of Forno Campo de Fiori. Santo Palato is where the traditional gets a modern twist—Roman comfort food at its best. For a more elevated experience, head to the iconic Antico Forno Roscioli or the innovative Retrobottega, where every dish is a surprise. Giano, located inside the W Rome hotel, combines cool design with Italian flavors that are found all over the country. And to end the night? A cocktail at Drink Kong — one of the most creative bars in the city.

SLEEP

  • Palazzo Talia
  • Russian Hotel
  • Monti House
  • Romeo Rome
  • Hotel de la Ville

Sleeping in Rome can (and should) be as special an experience as exploring the city. Palazzo Talìa is a true hidden retreat — elegant, intimate, and full of Italian charm, but with a contemporary twist. The iconic Hotel de Russie offers classic luxury with a secret garden right in the heart of the city. Casa Monti is perfect for those who love modern design with a vintage touch, in one of Rome’s coolest neighborhoods. Romeo Roma blends art, architecture, and a sophisticated vibe that’s felt in every detail. And Hotel de la Ville, overlooking Piazza di Spagna, is simply a dream — ideal for those who want to wake up with Rome at their feet.

VISIT

  • Doria Pamphilj Gallery
  • Pantheon
  • Villa Borghese
  • Trastevere
  • Colosseum
  • Villa Farnesina

Rome’s beauty is around every corner, but there are certain spots that you can’t miss on your itinerary. The Galleria Doria Pamphilj is a well-kept secret with classical art and breathtaking interiors. The Panthéon is as imposing as you’d expect, and Villa Borghese offers that perfect balance between culture and nature. Lose yourself in the streets of Trastevere, a vibrant neighborhood full of authenticity. Of course, you can’t miss the Colosseum — the ultimate symbol of the eternal city. And for a more romantic (and less touristy) experience, Villa Farnesina is a Renaissance gem that deserves your attention.
